New ‘supplier in the spotlight’ video: ‘Gärtnerei Karl Bückers’

17 September 2019

"This year, our company is 49 years old and six years ago we took the business over from my parents," explains Carolin Bückers, who runs the nursery together with Andreas Jaspers. In the new ‘supplier in the spotlight’ video, we focus on the ‘Gärtnerei Karl Bückers’ located in Goch, which was founded in 1970 by Karl and Wilma Bückers.

Wide assortment for different customer needs
Together with their 20 employees, Carolin Bückers and Andreas Jaspers grow a diverse range of potted plants on ten hectares of open land and three hectares of greenhouses. In summer and autumn, Physalis, Gentian and Calluna are auctioned via Veiling Rhein-Maas. "My father came up with Physalis ten years ago. Until today, we have constantly improved and now produce a beautiful compact plant with many lanterns, with which we can serve different customers, such as florists and garden centres," reports Carolin Bückers. "We are proud of our own breeding ‘Calluna Juvelis’, which we offer in 6 cm, 9 cm or 11 cm pots. It is a good-looking plant that is very popular with our customers."

Constant development
All year round, Veiling Rhein-Maas offers a variety of Ilex supplied by ‘Gärtnerei Karl Bückers’. "The Ilex is a very good alternative to the Buxus. That's why we have decided to replace Buxus with Ilex five years ago," explains Andreas Jaspers. "Veiling Rhein-Maas is an important partner to us because we can reach a large number of customers that is daily present at the clock with our different varieties. Furthermore, the company attaches great importance to a continuously high plant quality from its own propagation and to a sustainable production.

Anniversary
‘Nursery Karl Bückers’ will become 50 years old in 2020 and therefore a new Ilex variety will be coming onto the market during the anniversary year: ‘Lola’  is characterised by a compact growth and is very similar to the Buxus.
