Veiling Rhein-Maas finishes 2018 positive despite challenges

Veiling Rhein-Maas looks back on a satisfactory financial year 2018 overall. Despite the difficult weather conditions - including low temperatures in February and March and the long heat period in summer - Veiling Rhein-Maas finished the financial year with an increase in product turnover of 1.1%. Thus, Veiling Rhein-Maas achieved the highest product turnover since the company was founded in 2010 with more than 348 million euros in 2018.


Clock pre sales still popular
The physical auction remains the most important channel for selling or purchasing products at the marketplace in Straelen-Herongen. The auction clock achieved a slight increase in product turnover of 0.3 % over the previous year. Remote Buying represented 28.2% of auction sales in 2018, a slight increase compared to the previous year. Exceeding the sales target for 2018, Clock pre sales continues to enjoy increasing popularity among the auction's customers. This digital sales channel generated product revenues of 10.5 million euros, an increase of 67.5% over the previous year. Klokservice of Veiling Rhein-Maas also closed the year with a positive 4.1% increase in product sales.

Measures to optimise the distribution of cut flowers
Veiling Rhein-Maas has already implemented several measures last year in order to optimise the cut flower distribution process so that the customers of the marketplace receive their products faster. These measures have now led to positive results.  

Strong demand for high-quality products
Planted bowls and arrangements as well as high-quality products are still very popular with the customers of the auction. In addition, there was increased demand for cut flowers, especially Lisianthus and Hydrangea. Due to the positive experience with the introduction of ‘Premium Quality’ at Veiling Rhein-Maas, this label was also successfully introduced at Gypsophila, Ilex and Alstroemeria in 2018.

Event highlights 2018
The first highlight of the year was the customers and suppliers day 2018 on the topic of ‘Future opportunities: digitalisation in the green sector´ (Zukunftschance Digitalisierung in der grünen Branche), which was attended by around 440 guests. In April, the Trade Association of German Florists (Fachverband Deutscher Floristen, FDF) and Veiling Rhein-Maas jointly opened the fourth edition of the trend exhibition ‘Rhein-Maas Next’ - this time with a Mother's Day theme - in the foyer of the auction. In August 2018 Veiling Rhein-Maas presented itself at the Rose Festival in Lottum (NL), which attracted approx. 45,000 visitors this year. Veiling Rhein-Maas is very pleased that many visitors of the pavilion of the auction ‘World of Roses’ have expressed themselves positively about the presentation. Furthermore the beautiful products of the suppliers of the auction were impressively presented at many events and fairs of Veiling Rhein-Maas.
