Positive year 2021 at Veiling Rhein-Maas with 18% more product turnover

7 January 2022

Veiling Rhein-Maas has recorded a satisfactory 2021 financial year and a product turnover of almost € 457 million. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year, which could be achieved thanks to the good and trusting cooperation with all customers, suppliers and employees. Overall, the volume level of supplied products was stable. The price development led to good average prices, which was supported by an excellent demand from the end consumers. In the context of the ongoing Corona pandemic, the digital sales channels of Veiling Rhein-Maas continued to be popular. At the same time, the physical auction clock remains the most important sales channel in Straelen-Herongen, including a stable customer frequentation and an increase in product turnover of 13% compared to the previous year.

Increase in turnover at digital sales channels
The share of Remote Buying in the total turnover of the auction clock was about 39% in 2021, which is again an increase compared to the previous year. In addition, Clock pre sales achieved a new record turnover of € 41 million in 2021. At the same time, the Webshop was increasingly used by customers and suppliers, so that a significant increase in turnover was also achieved here. Like the digital sales channels, Clock Service also recorded a growth in product sales at potted plants and especially cut flowers compared to last year. Overall, the Clock Service achieved product sales of over € 100 million for the first time.

Development in the last quarter of 2021 and adjustment of auction groups
Also the last quarter of the previous year was satisfactory for Veiling Rhein-Maas. The period before Christmas, including the Advent and Christmas business itself, was also characterised by high demand and a higher turnover than in the previous year was achieved. Popular products included chrysanthemums on All Saints' Day and, in the run-up to Christmas, especially amaryllis, gerberas, roses, exclusive products, euphorbias, orchids, Christmas-decorated planters and arrangements. In addition, the structure of the auction groups was optimised at the turn of the year in order to increase clarity and to meet customer wishes in this regard.

Expectations and developments in 2022
Veiling Rhein-Maas is optimistic about 2022 and assumes that the strong demand will continue. In order to be well positioned for the future, several investments and innovations on the premises and in the auction building will be done in this year again. These are, for example, new LED lamps, a live stream from the auction room as well as the modernisation of the foyer. We will inform you about these topics as usual via the weekly newsletter of the auction. Veiling Rhein-Maas is convinced that the current challenges - for example the ongoing Corona pandemic or the difficult personnel, energy and transport situation - will be successfully mastered together with our suppliers and customers.
