Current information Coronavirus: New regulations for people entering Germany from the Netherlands

8 April 2021

On 4 April 2021, the German government classified the Netherlands as a high incidence area with effect from 6 April 2021. This decision entails new regulations for travelling to the Netherlands as well as for entering Germany from the Netherlands, which are particularly relevant for our partners and their employees in the border region. Employees of Veiling Rhein-Maas living in the Netherlands have already been informed about the following regulations.

A summary of the most important regulations which affect customers, suppliers or transporters of Veiling Rhein-Maas can be found below. Further information is available on the website of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

1. Compulsory registration
When entering Germany from the Netherlands, you are generally obliged to register at www.einreiseanmeldung.de.

  • However, there are exceptions for transients or stays of up to 24 hours (both in NRW and the Netherlands).
  • Furthermore, border commuters must complete the digital entry registration once per week, which is then valid for 7 days.

2. Obligation to present a negative Corona test
In addition, there is an obligation to present a negative Corona test. PCR tests and PoC rapid tests as well as Self-tests, which must be carried out under the supervision of competent personnel, are permitted. Please note, that tests in the Netherlands are only possible under certain conditions.
The respective tests must not be older than 48 hours, with the following exceptions:

  • For border commuters, a test is valid for 72 hours and can be done both before and immediately after entering Germany (e.g. at the workplace or at a test centre).
  • Persons in transit, transporters of goods with a stay of less than 72 hours, security forces on operations and justified individual cases with a corresponding request at the public health department are exempt from the test obligation.

3. Employer certificate
Border commuters must also carry an informal certificate from their employer to prove that they meet the requirements as a border commuter.
