Satisfactory Valentine's Day business 2024 at Veiling Rhein-Maas

16 February 2024

Despite there being a difficult market environment in many areas, Veiling Rhein-Maas enjoyed a good Valentine’s Day overall in 2024. Total sales at the auction clocks were equivalent to previous year with a slightly higher total volume of sales in the cut flower segment. It was striking that Carnival did not have an impact on Valentine's Day business this year. On all auction days, sales were pleasingly constant with high customer frequency. In addition to the auction clocks, digital sales channels also continued to be popular, with a very high level of participation in both distance purchasing and clock pre-sales.

Cut flowers and potted plants in shades of red and pink

In the cut flower segment, roses, tulips, gerberas/germinis and bouquets were particularly popular products in the week leading up to Valentine's Day. The price level for cut flowers was consistently good. Customers at the marketplace reported that their sales to consumers were also satisfactory. In terms of potted plants, there was strong demand from consumers for bowls and arrangements. The price levels and quantities delivered were comparable to the previous year. Overall, more red and pink products were purchased for Valentine's Day. By far the strongest day in terms of sales before Valentine's Day this year, for both potted plants and cut flowers, was Monday.
